In 2016, the Roley Bridge fell at its current location at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds. It had stood for many years as a welcome site as visitors entered the fair’s grounds. Due to a strong storm, and decaying wood, the bridge could no longer remain standing.
The Roley Bridge was disassembled, tagged, and placed into dry storage. The Fairfield County Historical Parks has been given ownership of the bridge by the Fairfield County Agricultural Society with the understanding the Roley would be rehabilitated by the Parks and again used as a bridge for public enjoyment. The timeline of rehabilitation will be guided by funding availability. The cost of the rehabilitation is expected to cost well over $100,000. Please stay tuned for updates on the Roley bridge and another covered bridge opportunity that could bring the number of original Fairfield County Covered Bridges from 18 to 19.
The remains of the bridge lay at the Ohio University’s shelter, and sits and waits as the Historical Parks tries to raise funds to rebuild the bridge. If you would like to contribute to the rebuilding of the bridge, please contact the park’s office at 740-681-7249.
